Voters turned back without voting

By Seleoe Nonyane

Some voters at three polling polling stations at Makhoakhoeng in the Abia No 39 constituency could not vote as they did not appear on the voters’ roll.

This was confirmed by an IEC official who said at least seven voters were affected.

The station voting manager for Tent B (one of the polling stations) Regina Matla said in her station two voters were not found on the voting register.

She said a possible solution was for the local chief to confirm that such people were from his village.

Matla said it was difficult persuading the voters to stay on as the IEC officials tried to fix the problem.

She said there could have been a mix up which saw some names mistakenly landing in the wrong polling station.

One of the voters who did not appear on the register ‘Mampoetsi Mosoli, was disappointed that she could not exercise her civic duty.

“I have voted at this division three times in the past, so I am surprised that today my name is not on the register.”
