Palesa Pheko developed her love for baking from her mother, and has now opened her own bakery named Pexy Licious.

Pexy Licious is a bakery that currently operates from Pheko’s home at Masowe 2 in Maseru. It was founded in 2018 with the help of Touch Roots Africa with an amount of M2 400. It gets its name from Palesa’s nickname, Pexy.

Pheko told theReporter this week that with that money she was able to buy things like blenders, hand mixers, muffin pans, ice cream, flour, ice cream scoop and plastic cups to start a business.

She was also able to sell muffins and ice cream.

In the midst of everything, in 2019 Pheko went to further her studies at the Centre for Accounting Studies where she did not make it.

The business started operating in January 2019 as a sweet snack bar selling ice cream and muffins.

“In 2021 I went to Mosh School of Baking and Catering to improve my baking skills, and this is where I obtained a Certificate in Bakeshop Production and a Certificate in Technical Pastry.

“In December 2022 I will be getting a Certificate in Hospitality. I am doing all these to improve my baking skills and to make sure my business is top notch,” Pheko said.

After the experience at Mosh School of Baking and Catering, Palesa turned the business into a bakery that sells baked goods, desert and designed cakes.

The professional baker says her long term goal is for Pexy Licious to be a fully-fledged and equipped bakery with branches in all districts of the country and internationally.

“Baking is what I know and what I love. I developed the love for baking when I saw my mom baking for people at family gatherings. I took the initiative to bake some muffins by myself in 2009 at the age of 12; they came out perfect and I concluded that I could actually do this.

“The exceptional part about my business is that I bake steamed loaf and bread rolls for people who work at the textile factories and live at far away places,” Pheko said.

Palesa makes herbal and sweets muffins and scones; the herbal ones can be eaten by people with health issues while the sweet ones can be eaten by anyone.
