Naturally gifted actress and script writer, Thato Tṧiu, is fast becoming a force to be reckoned as she makes giant strides making her name in the acting industry, despite a myriad challenges associated with the industry.
Since making her entrance into the business in 2019, the high-pitched voice actress has become a household name with her palpable eloquence and sense of humour that keeps comedy lovers on the edge of their seats every time she portrays the true traits of a scolding nagging bad-tempered woman who has excessive love for money on Mosola Comedy. Her prominence has seen her becoming a voice-over artist and promoter for many local businesses.
The actress, who hails from the small village of Khanyane outside Hlotse in the Leribe district, says her fiery spirit of acting surfaced way back in high school where she used to perform during school events, and she was widely applauded by her classmates for her rare worth- viewing talent.
“When I was young I used to watch TV with great enthusiasm. That, therefore, gave me the ropes and planted a deep sense of being an actor because I would fiercely look at the renowned actors like Connie Fergurson on the small screen, who ignited a great spark in molding me up,” she remarked.
In pursuit of her dream, she enrolled into a Diploma in Mass Communication at the National University of Lesotho – a programme that equipped her with good communication skills. Thato told theReporter this week that, as part of honing her skills, she joining the school theatre club, and this turned out to the launching pad she needed to catapult her to stardom.
“After joining the club, I was fortunate enough to meet seasoned comedian David Mosola who was director of the club. He himself was already an established actor with much acclaim on his YouTube channels. As soon as l joined the club, he immediately noticed my potential and moulded me to be where I am today; we now have a TV show that airs on national TV every Friday,” she proudly said.
Even though acting is not held in as much esteem as she would love in Lesotho, Thato won’t let this dampen her spirit as she determined to soar and become the brightest of the stars.
“Every time I am about to perform I try by all means to be true to myself. This way, people can actually see me for the real me and my uniqueness rather than some copycat,” she concluded.
