Rorisang Mohapi, who founded Rocudy in 2017 has decided to revive it this year with an amount of M4 000, following a shortfall she experienced previously in the business.
Rocudy is a brand that is culturally inspired, showcases Seshoeshoe earrings focusing on fabric earrings. As the business grows, it will make shorts and jumpsuits using Seshoeshoe clothes but in a modern fashion design.
Rocudy is known for modern cuts and bold prints.
Mohapi said she took a three-year break “because the first products of the business had poor quality but everything has changed and the quality is much better and now has meaning behind it.”
In an interview with theReporter Mohapi said it all started when she saw a pair of earrings online but could not get them anywhere and she decided to make them herself.
She said she has always wished to wear something that stands out distinctively.
Her earrings are named after Sesotho names Molamu, Fapha, Lehakoe, Sakha, Lepei and Lesotho and are worn by people of different ages.
“I use Seshoeshoe cloth called 3 Cats, accessory making earring hooks, beads, leather and wood. I import nobs and hooks from as far as China,” she explained.
Mohapi works from the comfort of her own home in Maputsoe, Leribe.
Currently, she sells her products in the country as the consignment of boxes from China has not been delivered yet. She has to send in bulks to the countries to which she exports her finished products.
She says that her finished products, which are made manually, can be worn with any type of dress apart from Seshoeshoe.
But she admitted that this is a setback as she delays to make many earrings.
