Passionate and ambitious self-taught graphic designer Mpho Tau recently designed his debut billboard, which is erected at Maqalika.
Mpho wants to be an inspiration for the upcoming self-taught graphic designers in the country.
He explains that renowned local comedian and master of ceremonies Jeremiah Skaftin Lebea is the one person who always wanted to go big to design his upcoming event’s posters and a billboard.
In an interview with theReporter, Mpho says having designed the billboard means everything because it has brought a lot of attention and recognition as a freelance designer.
Telling his story, the 21-year old said design is fun and challenging. He however landed on the design field of work to gain knowledge about art which was never in his mind.
Mpho who endeavoured into graphic design through YouTube, an American online video sharing and social media platform owned by Google in 2019 explained that at the time of wanting to further his studies at varsity he was not “entirely interested because he had no knowledge of design.”
“Graphic design is about passing a message from a client to a particular audience digitally,” Mpho said.
The determined fellow aims to create stories that will inspire many people especially those who are passionate about artistic work.
“I have decided to show my unique side when it comes to art and design, and that is exactly what stands out as graphic design for me.
“I have designed three billboards and other many illustrations to date,” Mpho said.
The Sekamaneng born said his inspiration of design comes from his everyday experiences as well as from people he looks up to like Nkoanyane Pitso who is a Lesotho graphic designer and Karabo Poppy who is a South African graphic designer and illustrator.
“I want to keep working hard, designing as many big and small projects as I can and give mentorship as well,” the professional photographer said.
