The Lesotho Mounted Police Service says investigations into the stealing of M51million from the national treasury have led to the arrest of 10 people who are allegedly linked to the theft.

Speaking at a press conference in Maseru yesterday, Police Commissioner Holomo Molibeli told the media that some of the companies used in the embezzlement seem to have been registered with the ministry of trade while others haven’t.

He said investigations have revealed that the money was transferred into different accounts and ultimately withdrawn. He added that the police have also uncovered assets in the form of money and property amounting to M41million.

On the cause of guns stolen from the Mafeteng police station, Molibeli said police have arrested five people who are currently helping a team of police officers with investigations. He said the police currently have leads as to where the guns were taken to from the police station.

Seven of these guns have been recovered. The five people are three police officers, a Mosotho man and a Chinese businessman residing in Mafeteng.
