The youth of the #Bachashutdown Movement have written a letter to the minister of gender and youth, sports and recreation Likeleli Tampane calling on her to step down.
The letter that was written on Monday this week tables the grievances which Tampane failed to address that concern the youth of Lesotho.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, the acting president of the movement, Tumelo Moteuli told theReporter that the youth of Lesotho are convinced that Tampane is not proficient to hold the office of minister of gender and youth, sports and recreation.
Moteuli said it has been more than nine months since the movement tabled its grievances before the minister’s office but she failed to address any of them.
Moteuli added that during the #Bachashutdown Movement meeting on the July 1 2021 countless unserviceable attempts to get hold of the minister, she promised to attend to the youth’s demands within 14 working days.
“Our demands included 50 jobs for youth to work in preparation for the Region 5 Games from August; solid evidence that the ministry is operating at 0 percent budget as well as the presentation of strategies that the ministry has in place to address youth unemployment.
“To our disappointment, the minister further ended up responding with an informal notice stating amongst others, that the ministry will not employ the youth for the Region 5 games preparations, as the duties shall be carried out by the ministry officials.
“Secondly, she said the ministry through the National Volunteer Corps (NVC) provides internships for graduates. And thirdly, the social compact and vocational schools.”
In the letter seen by this publication, the youth state matter-of-factly:
“With the noted failures, you have proven to us your incompetence for this office; we therefore make a special appeal to you to leave office within five working days.
“Failure to comply will give us no other option but to resort to other measures we find appropriate.”
