A shipment of 100,000 KF95 masks donated by the Republic of South Korea to protect health workers and hospital patients from COVID-19 arrived in Lesotho today.

South Korea donated the masks as part of a contribution of masks worth $9-million (M135-million) that have been allocated to 24 countries in Africa and Latin America.

UNICEF Lesotho representative Kimanzi Muthengi said Lesotho, like many countries around the world, continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

She added that these masks, which are to be distributed to various health facilities around the country, come as a show of solidarity from the government of South Korea to the people of Lesotho.

“UNICEF Lesotho is grateful to the government of South Korea for this donation. The masks’ arrival is timely as we have seen a rise in positive COVID-19 cases nationally. We know these masks will be put to good use and help protect health workers as they support people affected by COVID-19,” Muthengi said.
