Thirty-four-year old Mojalefa Lenea and his wife ‘Mampho Lenea, both from Butha-Buthe, Qholaqhoe but currently residing in Qoaling, Lekhalong have been jailed for physically abusing a seven-year old child.

Reports state that the boy, who is Mojalefa’s son from a previous marriage, has been confirmed to have suffered brutal beatings by his father and stepmother for arriving home late from playing.

Police found the boy with new and old bruises all over his body, a swollen face and wounded hands as well.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the child is regularly beaten by both parents at the same time, with the father using a plastic sjambok. The child’s biological mother is said to be living in RSA.

“The couple appeared before the magistrate’s court on June 25, 2021 and were found guilty and fined M6000 each, or face two years behind bars. The couple failed to pay the required amount and were therefore sent straight to prison.”
