A Sesotho rapper and songwriter, Spesh Maan has been nominated for the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) in the category of best newcomer.
The MAMAs were established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa now Viacom International Media Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.
The Mazenod-born and bred, Johakim Badhuz’ love for performing in front of crowd developed while he was 18 years old.
He would fight to be on every single play and show.
The 28-year old grew up involving himself in cultural activities and dancing, but when time went on he met his best friend Chereh Sputswe who made him realize his passion for rapping at the age of 18.
Spesh is known for his hit single ‘Mabebeza Wa Jola’ which was released on December 15 last year under D’Kokonate Music which is said to be doing very well.
D’Kokonate Music is in partnership with a big South African company called RoomanInc
The hit song has opened more doors for him as he featured the biggest Artists in Music Industry TGray from Botswana and Chereh Sputswe from Lesotho.
In an interview with theReporter, Spesh Maan said it was good for him to have been nominated for the awards as that would gain him recognition.
“Malome Vector made it to the SAMAs and MAMAs21 so this means Lesotho talent is getting there. I really appreciate this opportunity,” he said excitedly.
Spesh has worked on a radio station called Info Hub in Leribe as a host and presenter of a show called Local Afternoon Drive Show.
He has also managed to attend classes of leadership skills and computer basics at Help Lesotho and he became the best student of the season.
Spesh Maan decided to pursue his career in music, spending some time weaving before he was noticed by Lesotho Famo Icon Lebohang Letšohla from Sefako Sa Menoaneng, who took him under his wing & became a father figure to Spesh.
When his career started growing, Spesh also got an opportunity to be on stage with big Artists, like Mlindo the Vocalist,Kwesta, Dj Finzo, Kommanda Obbz, and Selimo Thabane
He called his music style Kwaito Rap.
Working with Letšohla and Chereh Sputswe has boosted Spesh Maan`s young music career to amazing levels, performing all over Lesotho and outside multiple times.
Viacom International Media Networks stated that MTV Base is postponing the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards and will keep fans updated when new developments flow in.
