Lesotho has, after much thought and consideration, relaxed Covid-19 restrictions to the blue level of restrictions ahead of the upcoming Easter holidays, winter and the possible third wave of the pandemic.

In his national address on Sunday, Prime Minister, Moeketsi Majoro expressed concern at the recent outbreaks in the Leribe district, which he attributed to people not complying with COVID-19 rules.

“It has become apparent that the country is experiencing local transmission of COVID-19. Cabinet, acting on the advice of NACOSEC, has agreed on the terms of the blue colour restrictions.

“Non-contact sports are to proceed with people wearing masks while contact sports will be permitted subject to police clearance. Festivals and concerts are permitted subject to clearance by ministry of tourism while night clubs are not permitted to operate. Curfew hours will be between 10:00pm and 4:00am.”

In conclusion, Majoro revealed that 13 000 people in Lesotho have so far taken the COVID-19 vaccine.
