A National Covid-19 Secretariat Campaign (Nacosec) and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Covid-19 campaign has revealed the need for enhanced civic education on the corona virus.

During the campaign on Friday last week, IOM in collaboration with Nacosec and DISCOSEC led by Mohales Hoek District Administrator, and in partnership with the Migrant Workers Association, theReporter learned that many people in the district still do not wear masks even though they know it serves the purpose of protecting from the transmission of the virus.

Many people walked around without masks while others did not wear them properly (covering) the nose and the mouth as the World Health Organisation regulations advise.

One taxi driver who was not wearing a mask during the campaign said he does have one but had forgotten to wear it, while one of his passengers claimed he did not have a mask at all.

The publication also encountered a group of children roaming the streets without masks; at least half of them claimed not to know why they should always have their masks on while in public.

It is cases like these that have shown Nacosec the need to continuously sensitize communities on the risks of COVID-19 and educate them on key infection prevention and control measures.
