NACOSEC has outlined roll out plans for the Covid-19 vaccine, once again indicating that the first batch of recipients will be health workers.
The ministry of heath’s head of family health services, ‘Makhoase Ranyali, said apart from health workers, another group of recipients will be vulnerable people such as those with chronic diseases and people aged 60 and above.
Ranyali said the second batch will also include factory workers, miners, teachers and students not under the age of 16.
“The third batch will cover the rest of the population, that were left out of the first and second batches.
“The ministry also has structures and processes that focus on vaccine related issues. We know it is important that the vaccines go through proper cold chains. This means from the ministry to the clinics we have that proper structure that is already in place.
“We work with districts to make sure that the public knows exactly what is going on with the vaccine and if there are any new developments,” she said.
This comes after South Africa, on Wednesday, started distributing and administering the Covid-19 vaccine; the country’s President was among the first people to take it.
