The National Covid-19 Secretariat (Nacosec) has introduced mass testing in villages, as this is where most super spreader events take place.
Nacosec chief of staff, Thabo Ntoi, says arrangements are in place for the risk communication team to work with chiefs, councilors and village health workers to teach them about Covid-19.
Ntoi says for the mass testing, they are using an antigen testing kit which he said is able to return results immediately thus helping to promptly isolate infected people.
“We realised that if we work together at all levels – from national down to grassroots – we can reduce the number of Covid-19 deaths which currently appear to be on an upward trend.
“We are currently restocking on antigen testing kits because we do not want to run out of supplies midway through the job,” he said.
Nacosec risk communication manager Baroane Phenethi said as part of preparations for the upcoming vaccination in April, they have a communication strategy which involves utilizing radio to sensitize people about Covid-19.
