The National University if Lesotho (NUL) will offer Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Journalism and Media Studies this year.

The National University of Lesotho (NUL) will offer Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Journalism and Media Studies this year.

This was revealed by the University’s Faculty of Humanities Dean, Professor Beatrice Ekangume recently. She told the media that the four-year full time programme will be offered by the University from August this year.

“Since the programme starts this year and we will only have first year students, Mass Communication Diploma holders will start in 2020 because by then we will have second year students,” said Ekangume.

She said the university is also planning to offer this programme on part-time basis so that working people could also be accommodated. The programme will be offered at both Roma and Maseru campuses.

The U.S Ambassador to Lesotho, Rebecca Gonzales told the media that freedom of expression and freedom of information is enshrined as a basic human right in the African Charter of Human and People’s Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 1948.

Applications for the course can be made as soon as the forms are made available by the university before end of this month.

Introducing this course is part of the county’s bid to promote freedom of expression and freedom of information. This programme will be supported by the United States (US) government.

The U.S government has shown support on the development and implementation of this new academic programme with a grant of more than M750 000 and other technical support.
