To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2020, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) will highlight several interesting research projects on breast cancer throughout October.

Sejojo Phaaroe, a cancer advocate based at the ministry of health says that breast cancer kills both genders but mostly women.

“The whole world said let’s make people aware from bottom to top up from the villagers to the leaders in parliament and in churches.”

He also mentioned that awareness is poor this year because of Coronavirus, adding that people have shifted their minds to COVID-19 as if other diseases don’t exist.

Phaaroe emphasized that even though Lesotho has no theme for this years’ breast cancer awareness, people need to have knowledge about cancer because it will lead to them knowing the signs and symptoms as well as what to eat and what not to eat.

Asked about the extent of cancer in Lesotho, Phaaroe told theReporter that there is no cancer registryin the country, meaning there are no accurate cancer statistics in Lesotho.
