Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro has expressed hope that his ministers will approach their work with renewed vigour and diligence after undergoing a four-week induction session.

The induction that ended last week was meant to help new ministers understand their responsibilities, and how to execute their duties expediently, in line with the government’s plan of action that puts a premium on good governance in the delivery of services. UNDP contributed over M20 000 towards the programme.

Majoro yesterday told the media at the ministry of health auditorium that the programme was designed by public service minister Semano Sekatle, and was held by video conference with the 35 ministers (including old ones) participating on Thursdays and Fridays.

“It was a success from a technological point of view, as every new minister has now become comfortable using information technology services. The programme was to intended instil an understanding of national programmes and the ministers were introduced to important documents such as the National Strategic Development Plan.

“Secondly, they were taken through their paces in financial and procurement systems; they were specifically taught about their powers and limitations so as to steer clear of mismanagement,” Majoro said.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of protecting restricted and classified information, and reminded the minsters that they had subscribed to an oath of secrecy.
