Training centre seeks to plug capacity gap

By Neo Kolane

The Roma Agri-Business Training Centre (RABTC) is destined to technical and capacity deficiencies in Lesotho’s agriculture, amid various challenges threatening the sector such as a continually changing environment.

Roma Agri-Business Training Centre is an outstanding institution that provides quality training and research in agriculture, with intensive hands on participation through its unique approach methods of combining quality theory,

RABTC was established in 2013 by a Mosotho woman ‘Mabokang Motsienyane, and got its legal registration in 2015 under the ministry of education in the Training and Vocational Department (TVD).

It has the purpose of seeing the growth of Lesotho’s economy in the hands of the youth.

Motsienyane says: “agriculture constitutes a high percentage of Lesotho’s economy, therefore the relevant skills are needed to practice it in a commercial way. To achieve this, there is a need for a demand driven technical and training programme. Sustainable development is marked by promoting skills for self-employment.

“RABTC has the objective of producing Basotho youths well trained in various fields of agriculture to be entrepreneurs or work at the various fields of the centres dealing with agriculture.

“It also enhances production of well-trained practical oriented entrepreneurs, by engaging in production of high value products and agro-processing for value.”
