Itjareng Vocational and Training Centre in Maseru held its 18th graduation ceremony yesterday, highlighting the potential of disabled individuals.

Founded in 1986 under the Lesotho National Association of Physical Disabled (LNAPD), the centre has been pivotal in providing vocational training for individuals with disabilities, including those who are physically, mentally, mute, blind, and deaf.

Yesterday’s ceremony highlighted the achievements of graduates from four key departments: sewing, leather work, carpentry, and supporting subjects, with each course lasting two years.

The centre also hailed support from SMART Leadership Transformation and Pick n Pay.

Advocate Makhetha Motsoari, representing SMART, noted that disability is not inability, reinforcing theircommitment to helping disabled individuals realise their dreams.

LNAPD chairperson, Tieho Manare, expressed gratitude for Itjareng’s enduring mission, emphasizing its role in empowering disabled individuals to sustain their livelihoods. He hopes that the centre will continue to thrive as a beacon of hope.

Tele Jeremane, chairperson of the Lesotho National Federation of Disabled (LNFOD), stressed the importance of voicing the rights of disabled individuals, advocating for a future where they can live freely and without fear.

The event served as a reminder of the significant impact vocational training can have on the lives of those with disabilities.
