Leader in the technology sector, Computer Business Solutions (CBS) is marking Cybersecurity Awareness Month by promoting best practices among its clients and partners.

With over 25 years of experience, the company is conducting workshops to educate its stakeholders on various topics, such as safe browsing habits, secure data storage, and recognising social engineering attacks.

Additionally, it is offering resources such as security policies, business continuity plans, and other tools to help identify and mitigate potential cyber threats. Through these efforts, CBS aims to support the Lesotho Communication Authority (LCA)’s initiative and contribute to a safer digital environment for all.

In an interview, CBS Senior IT Support Officer, ‘Mopa Mosala, said Cybersecurity Awareness Month aims to promote safe online practices and to educate the public on how to protect themselves from cyber threats.

“This initiative aims to improve the overall digital security culture in Lesotho, as the country is advancing more in terms of mobile money and internet banking technologies usage,” Mosala noted.

It also emphasizes that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and everyone has a role to play. By increasing awareness, the LCA hopes to encourage individuals, businesses and organisations to take proactive steps to protect their digital information and create a safer online environment.

This year’s theme, ‘Secure Our World’, encourages people to protect themselves and their businesses from online dangers, using simple and effective steps.

Mosala explained that cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and data from digital threats, theft, or destruction. It entails establishing various technologies, procedures, and controls to protect personal information, corporate data, and digital infrastructure against unauthorised access or cyber-attacks.

Cybersecurity encompasses several disciplines, including but not limited to network security, information security, and application security.

Mosala said CBS encourages everyone to follow these measures to protect their personal information, digital infrastructure, and digital assets.

“Our support team is always ready to assist individuals, businesses, and organisations with any cybersecurity issues or recommendations. Stay aware, and cautious, and take proactive measures to safeguard cyber-attacks,” he added.

Founded in 1998, CBS is a well-established leader in the technology sector, headquartered in Maseru, Lesotho.

The company has evolved into a global provider of digital business solutions, serving customers across diverse markets worldwide, including South Africa, the United States, China, and Germany.

Its comprehensive portfolio includes IT consultation services, Software development, Infrastructure solutions, Security systems, IT and corporate training programmes, and ICT hardware delivery.

  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to add an extra layer of security.
  • Keep software and devices updated to protect against vulnerabilities.
  • Be cautious with emails and links from unknown sources to avoid phishing attacks.
  • Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) when accessing the internet on public Wi-Fi.
  • Back up important data regularly to prevent loss in case of an attack.
  • System Hardening to decrease cyber-attack surface.
  • Adopting the Defense in-Depth practice thus combining multiple layers of security.
