The fruity or rosy ice cubes are a fun, simple and exciting way to have your drinks with during this summer.
With Waldorf Ice Creation, you get to celebrate yourself in that romantic way while also elevating your event in to a unique experience.
Waldorf Ice Creation was founded earlier this year by Liako Moshoeshoe who hails from Moshoeshoe II, Maseru and holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications.
The company specialises in transforming moments into unforgettable experience, whether it’s elevating corporate gatherings, enriching restaurants experiences, energizing brand activations or adding a touch of elegance to intimate celebrations like baby showers and birthdays.
The inspiration behind the business was one of the character Blair Waldorf from the show called Gossip Girl, hence the name Warldorf Ice Creations. Blair always wanted outstanding things, from fashion to functions planning she always wanted perfect things, which also aligns with Moshoeshoe’s character.
In an interview with theReporter this week she said: “Everything about Blair was just bespoke, so I also wanted to create a product that she likes personally for myself. So I thought, you know what? I think have a lot of things in common with this girl because I also like beautiful things that are not just basic.”
Apart from that, Moshoeshoe said since her childhood she always enjoyed playing with water, experimenting and also creating stuff, which is something that aligns with her brand and where she wanted to be.
“So that was all about bringing my personality as well as the things that I like and bring them together. Therefore, that is basically how Waldorf Ice Creations came about,” she noted.
Taking us through the ice creations, Moshoeshoe said first of all she handcrafts every piece of ice in different shapes. Thereafter, she puts different fruits such oranges, grapefruits, lemon and can be eaten. Apart from that, for the ice bucket, she puts roses or gold leaf and those are not for consumption.
So far, the business is doing well as she managed to sell at one of the Lesotho’s biggest events in Lesotho, the Wine Festival. She stated that currently ice creation is her only focus, and she is passionate about it and enjoys making them for content creation as well.
“We believe that ice is not just a functional necessity but also a creative medium that can transform any occasion into something truly memorable,” she added.
Speaking of the challenges, Moshoeshoe said refrigeration was one of the main challenges at the Wine Festival since there was no power supply and required generator which was an added cost.
“The biggest problem is that I always need to have a refrigerator on at all times if I am at work. Therefore, if there is no power supply, it is a very big issue for my product which could melt.
“Apart from power supply, I need to find cold storage not just cold functioning refrigerators that are working all the time with suitable temperatures,” she said.
In spite of the challenges, Moshoeshoe was glad that she managed to network with a lot of important people – corporates, alcohol brands who seemed to be interested in her work.
As a result, she aims to collaborate with alcohol brands as well as corporates next year for events like corporate challenges she could supply with her branded ice.
She has realised that the Wine Festival is one of the biggest events in Lesotho for the people to get to know about her brand, so it wasn’t really about selling but more about people knowing about it.
Moshoeshoe envisions seeing her business at a point where she can make ice sculptures for weddings and charity events in a few years. However, the challenge will be getting a machinery or equipment to make those big ice sculptures which require a lot of work such as shaping them up. That will also require a warehouse and a team to work with.
