Prime Minister Sam Matekane yesterday officiated the opening of the Ha Mpiti to Sehlabathebe road in the Qacha’s Nek district.
The 91km road project, stretching from Mpiti to Sehlabathebe, was funded by Chinese aid and constructed by Qingjian Group Co., Ltd, a company established in 2019.
The Ha Mpiti to Sehlabathebe road is now known as Makhaola Lerotholi Highway, a name bestowed by King Letsie III
In his remarks, Matekane said this vital infrastructure project will bring about positive changes in the lives of Basotho in numerous ways.
He said the improved road will significantly enhance connectivity within the region, thereby facilitating the movement of people and goods.
“It will not only boost economic activity, but also open new opportunities for education, health care, and social interaction for the communities it connects.
“We are truly appreciative of China’s continued support for Lesotho’s development endeavours, which solidifies a strong friendship between the two nations.
“This new road will be a vital artery for this region for years to come,” Matekane noted.
