Local pork lovers will get the opportunity to have a feast during the second edition of the ‘Pigs-on-Fire’ event to be held at Maseru Club on August 19 amid a storm of hype.
Organisers say the demand for the event is inspired by the huge success of the inaugural Pigs-on-Fire held at the same venue and in Botswana in 2022.
Pigs-on-Fire is a ‘Meat on Fire’ event headlining pork as the main offering. ‘Meat on Fire’ is a meat-driven event that focuses on the experience and adventure of cooking and eating meat.
The event is designed to offer patrons a braai, BBQ and fire experience that features an ‘all you can eat mode’. It is built to make sure that patrons eat pork cooked using all these listed methods.
Its focus is to put together meaty lifestyle events paired with cook outs and amazing BBQ competitions.
In an interview with theReporter this week, the founder of Meat of Fire Africa, Kaelo Sabone explained that the primary motivation for the event last year was to re-ignite the food and beverage sector out of the COVID-19 pandemic by encouraging farmers to return to farming and people to go out and have a good time.
A confident Sabone said the event has grown to become a value chain showcase set to encourage people to explore other means of processing and enjoying meat.
“We work by supporting local farmers. We then decided to bring the event to Lesotho to keep the experience growing while also motivating local farmers and service providers in the events and lifestyle space.
“From my observation, I have realised that Basotho have a passion and drive for small stock farming over beef, therefore we figured to zoom into pork as a first meat.
“But for this year, even though the event remains Pigs-on-Fire, we will be introducing other meats such as lamb and chicken. Our vision is to grow the event into a fully-fledged Meat on Fire meeting by next year,” he noted.
This year, patrons of Pigs-on-Fire should expect more serving points, learning from the large reception last year. Other meats including lamb, chicken and some beef from Botswana will also be introduced.
Above all these, the event will feature new applied cooking methods and a new different animal game surprise. Last year, warthog was served as the game surprise.
The event is a brainchild of Meat of Fire Africa and is powered by companies such as Sefalane, Mukuru, Econo Foods, Sky Alpha, OH ACES Event and Tourism. The organisers are looking to include more partners within the food value chain. Tickets are available at Computicket and on www.meatonfire.africa
