The Lesotho Council of Non-governmental organisations (LCN) is hosting its 22nd NGO Week at the ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre.
The event started on Monday and ends on Friday. It also coincides with LCN’s 33rd annual general meeting.
The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Education as a dispensable mode for sustainable development: time for action now.”
In a statement, LCN said that NGO Week is a platform where civil society organisations (CSOs) reflect on the progress and challenges facing development in the context of NGO operations in Lesotho and map the way forward.
The CSOs are expected to take part in seminars, public dialogues, discussions, and debates on issues of national importance with the aim of influencing policy directions.
“The sessions also fit into this year’s theme in ensuring that NGOs help the country traverse a trajectory aimed at achieving 2030 goals and beyond,” the statement noted. “The NGO Week embraces the concepts of genuine dialogue and political participation. The social dialogue and opening civic space done during this week make up foundation of good governance,” it added.
