Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane officially launched Lesotho’s University Innovation Pod (UniPod) yesterday, which is aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
Lerotholi Polytechnic was the venue for the launch.
This groundbreaking initiative places Lesotho among 15 countries in Africa with similar hubs, designed to transform universities into vibrant centres of innovation, experimentation, and accelerated learning.
Experts voiced their perspectives on the importance of the UniPod, emphasizing that protecting young entrepreneurs’ ideas is critical for its success.
Mphonyane Telikhunoane from the World Bank stressed the need for robust mechanisms to safeguard intellectual property rights to ensure the UniPod meets its goals.
At the same occasion, Thabo Qhesi from the Private Sector Foundation said the initiative aligns with the Agenda 2063 Vision, which prioritises science, research, technology, and innovation as pillars for national development.
As Lesotho embarks on this journey, the UniPod promises to be a catalyst for economic growth and youth empowerment.
