The chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Moussa Faki Mahamat, yesterday visited Lesotho as he concludes his eight-year tenure.
During his one-day visit, Mahamat met with His Majesty King Letsie III, prime minister Sam Matekane, and foreign affairs minister, Lejone Mpotjoane
Mahamat who has served two successful terms as head of the continental body was in Lesotho to show appreciation for the country’s support, particularly in the area of nutrition advocacy.
Under his leadership, Lesotho gained recognition by hosting the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, further solidifying its role within the AU.
The AUC will choose a new chairperson and deputy at the 38th Assembly of the African Union on February 15.
