Renowned veteran famo artist Lebohang Letṧohla, better known as Sefako sa Menoaneng to hordes of supporters, this week celebrated 25 years in the music industry, reflecting on his challenges, triumphs, and unwavering passion.
In an exclusive interview with theReporter, he opened up about his inspiring journey, revealing how his love for music and innate talent propelled him to carve out his own path in the industry.
Sefako sa Menoaneng’s musical journey began in 2000, when he decided to create his own brand. He discovered his passion for music while working as a backing singer for six years for celebrated famo pioneer and icon talented Apollo Ntabanyane.
It was during this period that he realised his potential and decided to embrace the stage as Sefako sa Menoaneng, a name that has since become a symbol of resilience and creativity.
Throughout his career, Sefako has encountered numerous challenges that have driven many artists to abandon their dreams. However, his determination to succeed has kept him pushing forward.
In 2010, he contemplated taking a break, but the following year, he released a hit album that reignited his belief that music is indeed a calling.
“I won’t back down anytime soon,” he declared, affirming his unwavering commitment to his craft.
When asked about his creative process, Sefako shared that much of his song writing is inspired by the challenges he faces in life. He often finds himself writing during moments of sadness, channelling his emotions into melodies that resonate with his audience.
He expressed concern over the state of the local music industry, noting that many artists are leaving due to the prevalence of illegal music streaming.
“People don’t buy music like they used to; now it’s often forged or shared without compensation,” he lamented.
This shift has posed significant challenges for artists trying to make a living through their art.
Over the years, Sefako has released an impressive 21 albums across six genres, garnering accolades along the way. He proudly boasts six awards, including two international recognitions, solidifying his place in the global music scene.
As he reflects on his journey, Sefako credits his supporters for his enduring presence in the music industry. “I am grateful to them, and I want them to know that their feedback is always heard,” he concluded, a reminder of the vital connection between artists and their fans.
