Prime minister Samuel Matekane has extended condolences to the government of Republic of China following a devastating earthquake in Xizang (Tibet) on Tuesday this week.

The 6.8 magnitude earthquake caused widespread devastation, claiming many lives, injuring thousands, and displacing numerous families.

The rugged terrain of Xizang was further shattered by the powerful natural disaster, leaving communities vulnerable and in urgent need of assistance, according to media reports.

“As Basotho, we stand united with the people of China during this painful time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, and we send our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones.

“Basotho stand with the people of China in their moment of grief. This is a time for humanity to come together and support one another, regardless of borders or distance,” Matekane said in a statement released yesterday.

He added that Lesotho remains steadfast in its support for China, offering prayers and moral strength to the affected communities.
