Tŝimo getting better and better

Tŝimoloho Pearl Lekaota, known as Tŝimo, has finally launched her Afro pop song called ‘Tsela Tŝoeu’, which has been gaining traction since it started streaming on social media platforms in August.

The 32-year old songstress was born in Morija and grew up in Maseru West until the age of six when her family moved to South Africa. She went to the University of Free State where she graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology.

She indicated that the song is titled ‘Tsela Tŝoeu’ because it is about wishing the people you love well on their journeys and letting them know that the paths you have already walked on with them have meant so much to you.

”I wrote the song at the height of the (Covid) pandemic. I lost many loved ones during that time, and knew that a lot of us were going through the same experience of loss because of how difficult the times were,” Tŝimo said.

She noted that the song was written by her and produced by Tshepo Mokoena, a talented producer based in Soweto, South Africa.

Tŝimo recounts how their collaboration came about during her time working on music, where she had the opportunity to meet Mokoena.

Their partnership blossomed, leading to the development of this track, which showcases their combined artistic and musical synergy.

Tŝimo told this publication that her love for music began at the age of 10 when she joined the church choir as well as the school choir at UFS. Her career went up a gear when she began writing music for her local peers and local acts around South Africa.

“I have been blessed to collaborate with artists and producers across the African diaspora who have helped me build my catalogue across music genres. I have also worked with Afro house producers from around the world and it has been a great privilege.

“The challenges I face are proving that I am capable in this industry. People are not always ready to give you a chance as an up-and-coming female artist and that comes with a lot of challenges as you build your career,” Tŝimo pointed out.

Tŝimo said she has worked a lot as a backing vocalist, in theatre, as a song writer, poet and a composer for plays that toured the country. Performing as a solo act came later in her varsity years, for curating her own shows and putting herself out for people to know her.
