The National Aids Commission (NAC) is commemorating World AIDS Day today at Thaba-Bosiu Cultural Village.

The commission says the event reaffirms its commitment to the rights-based approach to combat HIV.

On December ,1 the world unites to observe World AIDS Day.

According to a press statement issued by NAC this week this year’s theme is “Take the Rights Path.” It focuses on the critical need for a rights-based approach to tackle the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The theme highlights the importance of protecting human rights, addressing inequalities, and empowering communities, especially those disproportionately affected by HIV.

“Stigma and discrimination continue to hinder access to vital healthcare services, making it essential to advocate for equal rights for all individuals. The key messages for this year stress that everyone deserves access to healthcare, regardless of their background.

“By addressing economic and social inequalities, we can create environments that support healthy choices and improve treatment access,” the statement noted.

Community empowerment is also crucial as strong and informed communities can effectively reach at-risk populations and provide necessary support to those living with HIV, NAC added.
