The Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled will be hosting a potato festival on December 6 in Maseru to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).
The event will be held in conjunction with the office of the United Nations’ Resident coordinator (UNRCO). The 2024 theme is “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”.
IDPD is an annual event established by the United Nations to raise awareness on issues of disabilities and challenges faced by such persons.
It also seeks to promote the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities, as well as to encourage them to realise their full potential and equal participation in all aspects of society.
In a recent statement, LNFOD said the objective of the festival is to showcase and sell potato products produced by persons with disabilities
“LNFOD will be commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in a manner that transforms the economic situation of persons with disabilities through creating a space where they can demonstrate and market their products,” the statement noted.
