UN urges action on disaster risk reduction

The United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) will tomorrow commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The day aims to encourage citizens and governments to take part in building more disaster-resilient communities

This year’s commemoration is themed:‘Empowering the next generation for a resilient future’, emphasising the role of education in protecting and empowering children and youth to create a safer future, to be proactive in disaster risk reduction, and build more resilient communities.

This year’s event was organised by the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) in partnership with the Lesotho Red Cross. It will be held at Ha Khoeli in the Koro Koro constituency, Maseru district.

Celebrations will focus on a resources mobilisation campaign aimed at combating the impacts of disasters and emergencies in schools and to reinforce continuity of education in the face of emergencies, the two organisations said in a joint statement.
