Lesotho on Friday marked World Food Day with a celebration at Ha Koali in the Quthing district, led by King Letsie III.

The event, organised by the ministry of agriculture, food security, and nutrition, saw the King tour local Basotho products, showcasing the nation’s agricultural prowess.

A total of 140 impoverished individuals received donations of beans and wheat, while 24 new mothers were gifted with essential items such as fish, peanut butter, eggs, milk, watering cans, and hand forks.

King Letsie III expressed his satisfaction with the progress at Ha Koali, commending the villagers’ dedication to agriculture and handicrafts.

He encouraged them to continue their efforts, emphasizing that such initiatives are crucial in preventing starvation.

World Food Day is observed on October 16 every year to raise awareness of food security challenges and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Celebrated in over 150 countries, the day advocates for the eradication of hunger worldwide.
