Participants at the African Investigative Journalism Conference held in South Africa have called for effective collaboration and coordination to ensure the safety of journalists.
The call came as the world marked the International Day to End Impunity Against Journalists on Thursday.
The conference noted in a statement yesterday thatthe day is a reminder that journalism is in danger and impunity remains in the most of the cases where colleagues have been arrested, detained, threatenedor killed.
The annual conference was attended by 450 journalists from 32 African countries including Lesotho. It also urged civil society and media organisations to increase advocacy and capacity building for the safety of female journalists, including developing strong newsroom protocols to address attacks or harassment of such journalists.
