The ministry of justice and law through the registrar general’s office will host the 48th session of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) administrative council from today until Saturday in Maseru.
As a member of ARIPO since 23 July 1987, Lesotho has been actively involved in the organisation’s efforts to promote intellectual property rights across the African continent.
A statement from the ministry says the hosting of this session underscores the country’s commitment to fostering a robust IP ecosystem and contributing to the region’s development.
“The ARIPO administrative council, which is the supreme policy making body of the organisation, comprises heads of intellectual property offices from 220 countries. It is accountable to the council of ministers, which is the highest body of ARIPO.”
The statement further says the administrative council session will bring benefits to Lesotho, that include enhanced international visibility, economic growth, intellectual property development, regional leadership, and cultural exchange.
“Lesotho is eager to highlight its rich cultural heritage and the progress it has made in the field of intellectual property,” the statement noted.
