The Indian Association of Lesotho (IAL) today held its annual India Day cultural and food festival at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre.
The festival coincides with 200 years of the founding of the Basotho nation, allowing the two countries to celebrate their vibrant cultural heritages together.
The president of IAL, Biju Abraham Korah, said it was an honour and privilege to celebrate the friendship between India and Lesotho, which goes back more than 140 years ago.
Korah said values and cultural ideas were exchanged since back then.
“We celebrate the spirit of friendship that unites our people.
“Every year, India sponsors students from Lesotho to study in India . It has also donated 500 tonnes of rice to Lesotho,” he noted.
He further expressed pride in the Indian community which has been contributing to Lesotho’s development endeavours.
Korah urged the the two countries to create more opportunities for collaboration to boost their economies.
The festival also allowed Basotho entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses, offering them valuable exposure.
