Botho University held an event to give an overview of its two innovative modules, social entrepreneurship and innovation for sustainable development Maseru on Tuesday.
The university also used the challenge driven education engagement event to launch a new academic programme in the faculty of engineering and technology, which is called bachelor of science in data science that is founded by Sweden’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology, one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities.
Providing and overview of the CDE, KTH’s Lena Gumaelius said that selected universities are to be developed with a new model for learning based on challenge driven education in collaboration with KTH. Through the collaboration, they want to equip students with the knowledge and skills to find solutions for major challenges of their time and innovate their student’s education.
“The combined international activities at each university shall both strengthen the quality of the university’s education, research and contribute nationally and globally to such sustainable development,” Gumaelius said.
At the same occasion, Botho University Lesotho campus country head, ‘Makhosi Hlalele saidthey are honoured to officially launch a challenge driven education initiative which has been done in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
“Challenge driven education is an approach designed to equip students with knowledge and skills necessary for societal challenges and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development,” Hlalele said.
