Melodious Music Awards will hold the 1st National Music Awards at the ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre on Friday next week.
The inception of this initiative took place in September 2023, when a group of local artists united to develop this ambitious project.
A member of the Lesotho Copyright Society of Authors and Artists (LESCOSAA), Maema Chaka, said throughout the course of their efforts, a series of encouraging advancements emerged, notably the establishment of a partnership with the ministry of tourism, sports, arts, and culture.
Chaka said this collaboration has the potential to significantly enhance the project’s scope and impact, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and resources.
“The upcoming event is poised to be a significant milestone in the music industry and it is designed to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary talents that abound within this vibrant field. Today serves as an opportunity to delve deeply into the importance of the occasion.
“There are various categories and genres that will be honoured and this is expected to have an influence on the music landscape,” he noted.
Chaka also indicated that people can look forward to an engaging exploration of the event’s implications, as well as the recognition of artists who have made remarkable contributions to the industry.
Rolisang Motsamai, one of the brains behind the Melodious Music Awards, revealed that their team went to great lengths to develop the national music awards and were excited they will finally be staging them with the backing of the ministry of tourism, sports, arts, and culture.
“This support is significant, as it aligns with the ministry’s interest in promoting music which aim to provide talented Basotho with a platform to showcase their abilities and potentially advanced their careers in the industry,” he said.
He stated that all nominated artists had been informed about this event, as the ministry of tourism, sports, arts, and culture had dispatched forms and letters to them.
Additionally, he assured all the artists that there would be prizes awarded to each participant at the event.
The nominated artists unanimously welcomed the awards, stating that the gesture was a unique opportunity to showcase their talent.
Artists who spoke to theReporter said they were thrilled with this recognition, especially those that are involved in politics, given that they usually snubbed because they are considered partisan and divisive.
A representative of Blue Ribbon Bakery – one of the sponsors of the awards – Sephula Phera said: “My team and I recognised a rare opportunity to sponsor this initiative, as it is essential for all Basotho to have the opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities.
“We believe that by sponsoring the project, we can empower artists to demonstrate their skills and contribute meaningfully to society,” he noted.
