Chinese Premier Li Qiang and prime minister Sam Matekane met in Beijing yesterday on the sidelines of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit.

During their meeting, Li expressed China’s commitment to working closely with Lesotho to implement the agreements reached between the two nations.

He emphasized China’s support for Lesotho on issues that are crucial to both countries’ core interests.

Li outlined China’s willingness to enhance bilateral cooperation in several areas, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, textiles, education, and tourism.

“China is interested in exploring new opportunities for collaboration in green development and the digital economy.

“China is going to increase imports of high-quality products from Lesotho and fostering greater industry synergy between the two countries,” he noted.

Matekane welcomed these proposals and expressed his desire to deepen cooperation in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and education within the FOCAC framework.
