The ministry of tourism, sports, arts, and culture and the Mountain Marathon 21 team have held a three-day media tour in Qacha’s Nek ahead of the event on October 26.
The marathon, sponsored to the tune of M1.2 million by Manti Sehloho Construction and Projects (MSCP), aligns with bicentennial anniversary of the Basotho nation’s rich heritage.
The 21.1km race, also known as half marathon, will kick off at Ha Noosi village to Melele Stadium in Qacha’s Nek.
The tour affords Basotho and tourists an opportunity to learn about historic places in Qacha’s Neck such as Hanoosi where fossil remains of a 6.5m dinosaur were found in the upper Elliot formation during road construction in 2012.
The ministry’s public relations manager (PRO), ‘Mamolise Falatsa, said the landmark race commemorates 200 years of the Basotho nation.
She noted that they hoped the marathon will leave a lasting legacy in Qacha’s ‘Nek district.
“We are keen to hear about the community’s readiness in terms of providing accommodation of the visitors,” she added.
