The School of Crafts and Development Lesotho (SCDL)’s 3rd fashion show on September 7 promises fireworks.
Dubbed: ‘The Prime Holy Matrimony, Wedding of the Century’, this year’s exclusive event celebrates infusion of different cultures.
The school was established in 2022 by Ntṧepase Mosotho. It offers certificates in Fashion Design, Cosmetology, Catering and Carpentry among others, over a duration of three months, six months and 12 months depending on the type of the course.
This year’s event promises to be a spectacular showcase of bridal and groom fashion and design, featuring renowned designers and models from around the world.
Set against the backdrop of the Lehakoe Recreational Centre, the show will highlight the latest trends and innovation in bridal couture, offering a unique blend of tradition, love and cotemporary style.
In an interview with theReporter, SCDL marketing officer, Mpho Tema described ‘The Prime Holy Matrimony, Wedding of the Century as the biggest event of its kind with a cultural infusion that celebrates creativity, fashion and union of tradition with modernity.
Tema said the show is inspired to mark a significant bridal-and-groom cultural collaboration with other African weddings.
“The main objective of the fashion show is to develop and expand students’ opportunities in the fashion industry, show creativity and innovation using Basotho-owned fabrics. This exposes them to real world industry experiences, helping them to develop dynamic and transferable skillsets. It also acts as a stepping stone towards prospective career paths, setting them apart as highly attractive and creative candidates in the fashion industry.
“It also brings awareness to Basotho about fashion creativity and introduces Sesotho designs to other countries.
“This is the third fashion show; each year we expand and go classier than the previous one. Last year’s fashion show was about Basotho and their culture while this year it is all about the infusion of different cultures,” Tema noted.
She added that Basotho should expect immaculate designs, beautiful people with class and more fashion details, performances by well-known artists and the best beautiful deco and atmosphere.
The dress code for this event is ‘dress to kill’!
According to Tema, the fashion industry in Lesotho is not recognised as much as it should, despite efforts to host events like this.
She urged people to acknowledge the hard work of Basotho youth and show appreciation of up-and-coming leaders of creativity in the industry.
“We believe such events should be taken seriously to promote the creativity of our own people. We also believe if people can purchase tickets and actually attend this event, they will be impressed and motivated by the innovation that we bring each and every year,” she added.
People can purchase tickets using the school’s merchant code 70241 (Ecocash). They can also procure tickets at Bokamoso FM and the school office. Payment notification massages should be kept as proof of payment. For more details they can also contact Tema on +266 62212528 or +266 63855687.
