Insurance company, LNIG Hollard has invested M 100,000 into the upcoming Lesotho Spring Music Conference by Young Musicians Emporium (YME), which is set to take place in September 20-21.
The conference serves as a vital platform for the exchange of knowledge, talent showcase and networking within the music industry. The event started in 2015 and it circulates within the SADC countries.
This year’s conference will feature an insightful panel of discussion, meet and greet, music showcase, masterclass, LNIG hit factory, street festival and cultural music showcase.
At the launch of Lesotho Spring Music Conference and the announcement on the new partnership between LNIG Hollard and YME, the chief executive officer of LNIG, Mpho Vumbukani, said the company has decided to invest M 100,000 for the success of the conference.
He noted that the company will continue helping in future but at the moment the focus is on the current event.
“When you look at privileged countries, the creative industry like singing, football or marathon is considered as job unlike here in Lesotho.
“Our agreement with Sir Sechaba (Sechaba Mokoqo) was to consider the same thing here in Lesotho because historically the creative industry’s potential to create job opportunities was never considered.
“The aim is to acknowledge and assist youth by revealing their talents to benefit them in future,” Vumbukani observed.
At the same occasion, the founder and chief executive officer of YME, Sechaba Mokoqo -better known as ‘Sir Sechaba’ thanked the LNIG Hollard team for considering their proposal regarding what the Lesotho Spring Music is, and why they believe their partnership will help achieve a lot more.
“It took us time to learn, as YME Music, to choose the right company to partner with. In most cases, companies always question what the proposal has for them. Apart from that we noticed that in the country, LNIG is the only company that uses brand ambassadors or that uses local talent for their products.
“We saw where LNIG worked with Mme Puseletso Seema, the late Malome Vector and Ntate Stunna of late. These are some of the things that inspired us while doing our analysis on which company to approach for partnership and we found LNIG the right company,” he said.
He added that the conference is one of the platforms meant to assist Basotho youth in order for them to see their talents as a means of living.
With this event, experts from other countries are invited to Lesotho to equip the locals with knowledge related to the situation of Lesotho in the world, the creative industry in SADC and in the region as well as the role that the country can play.
“The Lesotho Spring Music Conference becomes one of the 12 music conferences happening around the SADC region. The conference circulates within those countries on different dates.
“Normally, we will take one artist locally to showcase or perform in that particular country and there will be collaborations of artists recording a song. That helps because if we become part of the bigger circuit of the region the talent that we have will open doors for Basotho’s talents in other countries,” Sir Sechaba indicated.
YME Tunes is an online music shop that is aimed at selling content from creators direct to their supporters using the two most prominent mobile money platforms, M-Pesa and Ecocash.
