The government has launched an initiative with the support of the United Nations (UN) to address economic hurdles faced by young entrepreneurs in the country.
The Prime Minister’s Initiative for Youth Empowerment – termed SEBABATSO (a marvel) – seeks to promote and expedite the growth of innovative youth-driven businesses.
It also aims to prepare young people for national and international investment opportunities.
“The initiative focuses on leveraging entrepreneurship as a potent tool for economic transformation, particularly in fields such as agriculture, arts, science, technology and tourism.
“With SEBABATSO, Lesotho is taking a proactive step towards creating sustainable employment opportunities for its youth, fostering innovation, and setting the stage for significant economic growth,” the implementers of the project, the ministry of youth, sports arts and social development, UN and Sebabatso said in a recent joint statement.
According to the World Bank Group’s June 2021 report, 29 percent of adolescents and 44 percent of young adults in Lesotho are not in employment, education, or training.
