Basotho National Party (BNP) leader, Machesetsa Mofomobe has filed a vote of no confidence motion against prime minister Ntsokoane Matekane.
The motion is seconded by the Member of Parliament for Makhaleng Mootsi Lehata.
The duo want Democratic Congress (DC) leader and leader of the opposition, Mathibeli Mokhothu to be appointed the prime minister.
Mofomobe moves that the National Assembly has no confidence in the current three-party coalition government led by Matekane.
“This House has no confidence in the current government of the Kingdom of Lesotho which is led by the Right honourable prime minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane.
“And the honourable house begs leave to urge His Majesty the King to appoint honourable leader of opposition, Mathibeli Mokhothu as the prime minister.”
Opposition parties announced their plan to oust Matekane when the parliament had closed for winter holiday.
They accused Matekane’s government of incompetence, nepotism, corruption and using security forces to harass opposition Members of Parliament.
But in September this year, Matekane dismissed the opposition’s claims and assured Basotho that his government had enough numbers to fend off the opposition’s attempt to oust him.
The motion will be debated in the National Assembly on Monday (14:30 pm,) according to the order paper.
