Voting for the local government elections got off to a slow start at the Ha Hoohlo polling station in Maseru.

Polling started at 7am and by 9am only 44 people had cast their votes, an indication that not many are interested in these elections.

Moeketsi Motopi, who is a first time voter, said although he had voted, he did not believe the elections would change people’s lives.

“These local government elections are useless and a total waste of time. I doubt anything meaningful will come out of them,” he noted.

Motopi accused previous councillors of not doing enough to come up with initiatives to create employment in their areas.

“Councillors need to see to it community members have sustainable means of livelihood,” he added.

He decried the high unemployment in the country, saying it needs to be addressed at community level.
