Entrepreneur ‘Nyalleng Macheli runs a home fragrance shop that manufactures and sells scented candles.

The shop called Twinkly Senses is based in Botha-Bothe.

The business makes and sell hand-poured soy candles and reed diffusers. Soy candles are a perfect choice for home spaces and hospitality areas considering their aroma.

Unlike other types of wax, soy wax is different as it burns slower and produces less residue than other types of candles which result in fresh, clean smell and feeling associated with burning candles.

Likewise, reed diffusers allow aroma to continuously spread into the air throughout the entire room or area. They produce fragrances that usually last longer and do not require an open flame.

“My products are for people who like an ambient atmosphere and a space that smells good,” Macheli said.

She noted that some of the ingredients can actually boost one’s mood such as lavender; it creates some sort of serenity.

She uses soy wax and mixes it essentials oils and fragranced oils.

Macheli told this publication that the business started this year as a hobby and later established into a fully-fledged enterprise after receiving funding from the Basotho Enterprise Development Corporation (BEDCO) business competition.

“I love a space that smells good and I knew that scented candles can help with that. I then took it upon myself to learn how to do them so I needed to mix up everything to create a scent that I like.

“I wanted my space to smell good and I thought other individuals would want it to for their homes too,” she said.

She also pointed out that she started making candles for herself and family and friends. Some were actually prepared to pay for them and she saw a business opportunity.

Macheli indicated she entered the BEDCO competition hoping to secure funds to start her own business and that came to fruition.

She said like other businesses, she encounters challenges but she always finds solutions that work for her.

Currently, her biggest challenge is most of her clients are based in Maseru and ensuring that they receive their orders is no mean feat.

“However, I have found a way to work around this problem; I have set aside two days in a week for Maseru deliveries. Luckily my clients are quite understanding and are aware that they will receive their products at a certain time,” Macheli said.

Her ultimate goal is for Twinkly Senses to become a household name.
