Leading mobile money service provider, Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) has announced a new initiative to support small businesses.

VCL will host a marketplace event known as M-Pesa Merchant Xchange at Maseru Club on April 30, 2023.

In a statement, the company said the event is meant to help small businesses thrive to today’s competitive marketplace.

The platform is expected to attract a variety of small business owners from across the country.

It will also feature entertainment activities for both children and adults, as well as promotional giveaways. This is all aimed at bringing awareness to the products and services offered by small businesses and educating customers on how to buy with M-Pesa via the mobile app or the *200# dial string.

“The event is open to all small business owners and stalls will be free of charge for the selected merchants, while tickets are available through M-Pesa for M20 per person,” VCL said.

The company also noted that it recognised small businesses role as the backbone of Lesotho’s economy in creating jobs, driving innovation, and supporting local communities, hence its decision to work with them on the marketplace initiative.

“By driving awareness through Vodacom’s media channels, small businesses will be able to reach a wider audience and grow their customer base,” the statement added.
