Telecommunications Company Econet Telecom Lesotho has called a shareholders meeting for purposes of considering voluntary dissolution of the Econet Vision Lesotho Company in terms of the Companies Act No. 10 of 2011.

This will take place on January 20, 2022.

Econet Telecom Lesotho is a subsidiary of Econet Wireless International founded in 1993 by a high riding multi-million businessman and philanthropist Strive Masiyiwa of Zimbabwe.

Econet Telecom Lesotho’s aim is to provide international standard telecommunication services to all the people of Lesotho while its vision is to serve by pioneering, developing and sustaining reliable, efficient and high quality telecommunications of uncompromising world class standards and ethics

In an interview with theReporter this week, the customer experience and public relations manager at Econet Telecom Lesotho Pulane Litabe explained that the reason for the dissolution is that the company made a special focus and decided to go back to its roots which is telecommunication.

Litabe said Econet Vision Lesotho is a company that runs Kwesé TV but it was a subsidiary of Econet Group of Companies. It is funded through its shareholders which include Econet Telecom Lesotho

Kwese TV was a subscription-based Zimbabwean satellite and broadcasting network owned by Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, under Econet Media. The service was shut down formally on November 1 2018.

She indicated that Econet Group of Companies has a lot of companies like Econet Telecom Lesotho, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, Econet Wireless Burundi and Econet Vision Lesotho.

“Its shareholders are Econet Group but the compliance due to the law shows that during any changes, there needs to be an announcement publicly but if there was no law, it would have been dealt with internally because it is group based.

“On telecommunication, Econet Telecom Lesotho wants to improve technology and communication to cover all 10 districts of Lesotho,” Litabe said.

She explained that currently, Kwesé TV is not available and obviously Econet Vision Lesotho will also be dissolved because it is registered but if the shareholders agree, the company will no longer operate.

Launched in May 2017, the multi-platform broadcasting television network Kwesé TV network marked its grand entrance into the Lesotho market.
