An extensive experience in the security industry and realising that there is a lot of cybercrime in the country, a team of five Basotho decided to found a company called Tethics.

Tethics is a cybersecurity start-up that is based in Maseru and founded in January 2021.

Its key element of focus is network security, disaster recovery planning, information security, cloud security as well as application security.

Tethics offers services such as penetration testing, information security control auditing, business continuity management, cyber-security awareness training, cybersecurity incident response and forensic investigation.

Cyber-security is raiding concerns for businesses of all sizes due to rampant sophisticated cybercrime activities.

According to the United States Health Care Cyber-security Market2000 report, more than 90 percent of healthcare organisations suffered at least one cyber-security breach in the previous three years.

The 2021 African Cyber-threat Assessment Report by INTERPOL, the top five prominent threats in Africa are digital extortion, online scams, business email compromise, ransomware and botnets.

Trend Micro, recorded millions of threat decision in Africa from January 2020 to February 2021: 679 million detections in emails, 8.2 million detections in file, and 14.3 million detections in web applications.

In an interview with theReporter,, the chief executive officer of Tethics, Tumelo Masasa said the company intends on building a reputable cyber-security brand that will become one of the top choices for businesses in Maseru.

Masasa said the vision of the business reflects the team’s values being integrity, service, excellence and teamwork.

He disclosed that Tethics has target segments like the healthcare companies, financial institutions, government agencies, tech companies, telecommunications, educational institution and law enforcements aganecies.

He further looked at the digital transformation of the world saying there is a high need of cyber-security as there are cybercriminals and hackers as well as cyber-terrorists.

Masasa said another inspiration of founding Tethics was that there is a need for cyber-security in the country as there has been a lot of incidents where organisations have been hacked.

“We have been approached to help them out on how to retrieve their data, advise them on the best way to protect their environment against such things.

“With all the investigations we have made, we realized there is a lot of cybercrimes happening. But looking at the situation in Lesotho, there is no cyber-awareness because people are not aware of it.

“In as much as Lesotho is a third world country, but the digital transformation is evolving and with the hackers and the hackers are evolving also. So Basotho need to learn how to protect their environment and data,” he said.

In their everyday work, Masasa said since the engagement with some organisations, the team realised that most organisations do not have policies and procedures to protect themselves against the scam.

“We don’t just do cyber-security, we look at written procedures and policies because it eases up our engagement,” he said.

Computer Business Solutions (CBS) gave important feedback thanking Tethics for its services.

“We are impressed with your professionalism and we are looking forward to an even working relations in the future,” CBS stated.
