A high-level meeting was held in Maseru yesterday, following a sensatisation meeting which was held in all the districts of Lesotho in a bid to sensitise stakeholders about the Automated Traffic Justice System.
The Automated Traffic Justice System is aimed at improving work flow between departments that handle traffic offences resulting from contraventions of the Road Traffic Laws of the country.
It is at the same meeting where Chief Magistrate ‘Matankiso Nthunya showed the delays that happen during the handling of cases, which sometimes sees some files disappearing.
“The system is going to increase the flow of cases so that every person who will be involved in the handling of a case will be notified by their computer if there are any changes in the file they are working on.
“This will also bring back the trust that people had on their justice system. We know how much people no longer have trust in our justice system, and resort to killing each other. This is because the system is failing them,” Nthunya said.
The Automated Traffic Justice System project is supported financially by the Road Fund, while the Lesotho Mounted Police Service, the prosecution and the judiciary are the users; Engidata is the developer of the system.
